INVESTMENT CRITERIA
- Industry Focus: CSL targets investments in businesses focused on Energy Services, Equipment or Technology that have applications in the broader Energy sector. This also includes businesses that may not be operating in the Energy sector today but have shown the potential to do so and where CSL can be a strategic partner to break into the Energy vertical in a meaningful way.
- Investment Size: CSL’s typical check size ranges from $5MM-$100MM for Private Equity opportunities and $500K-$5MM for Venture Capital opportunities, although we are opportunistically flexible with our approach:
- We have the capability to write a smaller check size for a business plan when we see a path to invest in additional growth opportunities down the road. We work collaboratively with management teams to identify and implement such opportunities.
- Similarly, we have participated in significantly larger offerings via co-invest partners when we have inhouse expertise in a particular domain. Our larger transactions have had an Enterprise Value as high as $900MM.
- Management / Senior Leadership: Generally, we prefer opportunities with continuing management and senior leadership, but we are also happy to consider an investment in which management and managers/owners are transitioned out over a reasonable time period. Attractive compensation programs and incentive-based options for owners and/or senior managers are an integral part of our investment philosophy.
